It’s a number thing

Too many to count - I hit elderberry paydirt!

I don’t do numbers in any way. I’m the girl who, given three numbers to add together, will find a way to get the answer wrong.  Having said that, I have an almost obsessive love affair with numbers… the kind of affair where you know it’s wrong, but you can’t help yourself.

I’m pulling seed off the mustard, counting each one. It’s a totally unconscious action. I count the onions as I pull them up.

I can climb the same set of stairs a hundred times a day and I’ll count each step each time. I can’t even begin to describe the weirder (even to me) parts of this affliction. How many people run their tongue over their teeth counting them? Ok, my secret is out. You now have conclusive proof of my strangeness!

I think I’m the only one in my family who will not rest until a number is memorised. I have every ‘life’ number in my head… our first car’s number plate, every phone number I have ever had (and Jurgis’ too) -even work numbers, and pin codes for every electronic device and financial institution. Birthdays and anniversaries are all there – mostly. This is where I come unstuck. I’m not good with dates. It frustrates me! I think it must be because dates aren’t really just numbers. They have words.

But…. I’m a word person! I love words. I’m (relatively) good with them. I can ‘add them up’ in reams. Just don’t ask me to remember names. I think that’s because my head is too full of pretty much useless numbers.

It’s a strange, strange world, this brain of mine…

What do you do with the elderberries? I’ve always known you were a bit crazy, and i knew there was a number thing, but I never knew it was this bad!! Wow, ma! XD

It’s worse. I mean… I count steps between lampposts and stripes on a zebra crossing… the list goes on. It kills me when the lampposts aren’t an equal number of steps apart. That takes some foot jiggling ;)

I have some elderberry tincture on hand – that’s to take when we feel winter lurgies coming on… colds and flu and such. Wards them off. The batch I got today is to make elderberry cordial… just for yumminess and because it’s good for you for the above reasons :)

You are as pleasantly disturbed as I am, LOL. But even though I teach math I’m bad with numbers. Give me words anytime … ;)

And you are good with words! :) I’m not sure what it is with numbers. I was really good at maths right through to the end of high school… then the wheels fell off. I think my brain went, “What on earth do I want algebra for?” Or perhaps it was when my favourite maths teacher was fired. He used to come to teach while high with excuses like, “I got my toe stuck in the bathtub”, but he was the best maths teacher I’d ever had!

Ohhh… Nice! I’m jealous. Gregory’s been coughing in my face lately, so now I’ve come down with a bug and a sore throat. =\
Poor crazy ma…. Would you like the padded or unpadded room? ;) Also, these things skip generations, so it’ll be my kids saddled with all your crazy….

Padded please! We’ve already proved conclusively that crazy didn’t skip a generation, so there! =Þ Hope you’re feeling better now!!
